Nimbin Community School

Nimbin Community School is a community-based education group which also auspices Nimbin Open Learning Centre. The Learning Centre aims to offer a programme of interesting and useful classes and workshops at low fees four terms per year.

The learning Centre is always seeking new tutors with ideas for classes at Nimbin Community Centre 81 Cullen Street, Nimbin.

Course Programme 2019 Term 1 2019


Tai Chi

Tutor: Susan Gumley

9.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. at Dance StudioS

Breath and movement meditation for strength and balance. Learn 37-step tai chi form (yang style), standing/sitting meditation and push-hands tai chi (free form with partner). Beginners welcome.

Creative Writing

Tutor: Christine Strellan

11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at Community School Room 

This course will help you to expand creativity in your writing, find inspiration and improve technical skills. Meet other writers and share ideas about books.    


Tutor: Megan James

1.00 p.m. to 300 p.m. at Community School Room 

Learn new techniques and meet other players for fun and musical development.


Conflict Resolution

Tutor: Saskia Kouwenberg

10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. at Community School Room

Trauma, Recovery and Cultural Healing

Tutor: Judy-Kaye Knox (Goomaroi)

11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre

This course will be looking at First Nation cultures and discussing our collective trauma histories. It will explore ways to heal through cultural therapeutic practices and processes, using creative recovery tools.

Note: this is a six week course. There will be 2 hours of class time, with a half hour extra included to share lunch.
