Nimbin Community Centre is committed to a sustainable future.
Our vision is to be fully sustainable; environmentally, economically and socially.
Sustainability has been described in a number of ways. Basically there is a common thread in all descriptions that alludes to the ability to sustain our way of life into the future. We need to link development and protection of the environment in order to protect and manage ecosystems and natural resources which are essential for fulfilling basic human needs and improving the quality of life for all.
In further projects we will be guided by the Key Principles of Sustainability.
In June 2012, the Nimbin Community Centre purchased a new property at number 7 Sibley street in Nimbin, for a long-term sustainability project: 7 Sibley - Nimbin's Sustainable Living Hub Project. The idea of this project is to build a community space that demonstrates sustainable building practices and design. This project has a diverse concept plan that encompasses a number of important local initivitives and demonstrates community commitment to sustainable practices in areas of: environment, energy, building, gardens and landscaping, artistic input, economics, invention and design, community gathering spaces. For more information on the project visit www.sevenonsibley.com
The purchase of 7 Sibley St was made possible by the combined efforts of the Nimbin Neighbourhood and Information Centre and the Nimbin Community Centre plus a community member who has generously loaned us the funds. This in turn was made possible by all your pledges, which gave the lender confidence that we will repay the loan.
The loan has now been repaid in FULL!!
WELL DONE NIMBIN!
